TXV Charging Targets (Quick Reference)

The most-used charging targets in degrees F, for a system with a TXV. On a TXV you charge by subcooling. For the fixed-orifice targets and what a high or low reading means, see the full values reference.

TXV target ranges (°F). Verify against the equipment nameplate or manufacturer charging chart.

Pressure-Temperature Charts

Convert a gauge pressure to a saturation temperature: suction pressure for superheat, liquid pressure for subcooling. Zeotropic blends list two columns (dew for superheat, bubble for subcooling).

Pressure-temperature values are cross-checked against manufacturer and published reference charts on the per-refrigerant pages. Target ranges are field rule-of-thumb envelopes, so always confirm against the equipment nameplate or manufacturer charging chart. Every value is derived from the same locked data the Intry calculator uses. Free reference from intrysys.com, updated July 17, 2026.

Run this in your AI. Ask Claude or ChatGPT to give me the target superheat and subcooling for R-454B and the saturation temperature at my suction pressure and it runs the Intry superheat_subcooling tool live, handing back the verdict with its cited source instead of a guess. Then keep the reading as one job in the Intry app.

Printable Chart FAQs

Where can I get a free printable superheat and subcooling chart?

This page is one. Use the Print or Save PDF button to print the target-range table and the pressure-temperature charts, or save them as a PDF on your phone. It is free with no login, and the site chrome is dropped on print so only the chart prints.

How do you read a refrigerant PT chart?

A pressure-temperature chart lists the saturation temperature for each gauge pressure. Read your suction pressure to get the saturated suction temperature (for superheat), and your liquid pressure to get the saturated liquid temperature (for subcooling). Each refrigerant has its own chart, so use the one that matches the system. On a zeotropic blend, the chart lists two temperatures per pressure: the dew point for superheat and the bubble point for subcooling.

Does this chart cover both TXV and fixed-orifice systems?

Both. The pressure-temperature charts are the same either way, since they only convert a pressure to a saturation temperature. This page lists the TXV charging targets; on a TXV you charge by subcooling. On a fixed orifice you charge by superheat from the manufacturer charging chart, and the fixed-orifice target ranges plus the verdict bands are on the Normal Superheat and Subcooling Values page.
