HVAC Serial Number Lookup
KeepRite Serial Number Lookup
KeepRite is part of the ICP family, alongside Airquest, Arcoaire, Comfortmaker, Day & Night, Heil, ICP, Tempstar. Enter the serial from the data plate below to get the manufacture date with a character-by-character explanation, the unit's age, its refrigerant era, and the warranty picture.
Starting the decoder. The serial formats, the refrigerant timeline and the warranty terms further down this page are already loaded, so you can read yours off them now.
7 of the 41 decode rules rest on a single secondary reference. Where two agree, that is weaker evidence than it looks: secondary references copy one another, and agreement between two is not a manufacturer document being read. Some of the formats on this page are read from the manufacturer's own document; the others rest on secondary references, and each row below says which. A date stamped or printed on the data plate always outranks a serial decode.

Its stop checks come first, then what its light or code means, on furnace codes for KeepRite. Type what the furnace shows and it opens there with the brand filled in.
KeepRite Serial Number Formats
| Format | Era | Example | Confidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plant letter (sometimes omitted) + 2-digit year + 2-digit week + sequence. Year FIRST: the reverse of the Carrier orderCross-checked across 3 secondary references, alongside a manufacturer document held. The manufacturer's document "Warranty Claims Overview", which says manufacture dates "are estimated from the serial number". | ~late 1980s to present | L943321238 = week 33 of 1994 | high |
| 2-digit year + 2-digit week + letter + sequence. Visually identical to the Carrier layout but with the digit pairs swappedCross-checked across 2 secondary references, not a manufacturer document. | 1990s | 9414B39332 = week 14 of 1994 (Tempstar) | medium |
Some older or conflicting KeepRite formats are recognized but deliberately not decoded; the decoder explains why when it sees one instead of guessing.
Worked Example: KeepRite L943321238
Expected decode: week 33 of 1994. Character by character:
L = plant letter
94 = year 1994 (year comes first on ICP brands)
33 = week 33
21238 = production sequence
Where the data plate carries an MFG DATE field, read that field instead. ICP order is year-then-week, the reverse of Carrier's week-then-year.
KeepRite Refrigerant Timeline
| Manufacture year | Typical refrigerant | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| through 2005 | R-22 | Standard refrigerant of the era. EPA ended U.S. production and import of R-22 on January 1, 2020; an existing system can still be serviced with recycled, reclaimed or previously produced R-22. |
| 2006 to 2009 | R-22 or R-410A | Mixed window during the 13 SEER transition. The model prefix digit is the reliable signal (4 = R-410A). |
| 2010 to 2024 | R-410A | From January 1, 2010, EPA allowed new R-22 to be produced or imported only for use in equipment manufactured before that date; R-410A was the standard through 2024. |
| 2025 and later | R-454B | All ICP brands moved to R-454B for the January 1, 2025 EPA deadline, matching parent Carrier, with a factory leak-dissipation system on A2L units. |
The refrigerant printed on the nameplate is authoritative; this timeline tells you what is typical for the age, not what is in a specific unit.
KeepRite Warranty Terms
KeepRite warranty lookup
No page of KeepRite's own for looking up a warranty is linked here, and this page does not read any maker's records, so it cannot show whether a unit was registered.
What this page works out is the next question. Enter the serial in the lookup on this page and the result works out the parts term the KeepRite warranty certificates held here print for that build date, naming the edition and quoting its clause, or says plainly why it cannot and what would answer it. It asks only for answers that would change a line it shows, each naming the line it moves, and a Service Brief carries the result to whoever works on the unit.
The KeepRite warranty terms held here
12 ICP air conditioner and heat pump warranty certificate editions covering KeepRite are held here, from 401 06 4300 04 (May 2010) to ACHP-ICP-08WAR (02/26). Every one prints a base parts term of 5 years for its residential row. Each gives 10 years if registered within 90 days (401 06 4300 04 to ACHP-ICP-08WAR). They start the term at installation, or at a date counted from manufacture when installation cannot be shown. Some of them tie their registered term to the original owner; ACHP-ICP-05WAR (6/24) prints: "If properly registered within ninety (90) days after original installation, parts are warranted for a period of ten (10) years to the original purchaser". It also prints: "In Texas and other jurisdictions where applicable, the subsequent owner's warranty duration shall match that of original owner (10 or 5 years, based on registration), as described in applicable law." Every one prints a separate term for a later owner, in a Subsequent Owners column; the result reads it when the owner is stated. None pays for labour.
Enter the serial above: where held editions are dated both before and after the build and agree, the result works out the base parts term from the build date and the dated windows, each with the edition it rests on; where not, it says so and names what would answer it. Only the maker's records show whether a unit was registered.
Source: the maker's own limited warranty certificates, each identified by the part number printed on it; the serial result names the edition every line comes from.
Frequently Asked Questions
How old is my KeepRite unit?
Decode the serial number from the data plate. The dominant KeepRite format (~late 1980s to present) is: Plant letter (sometimes omitted) + 2-digit year + 2-digit week + sequence. Year FIRST: the reverse of the Carrier order. Example: L943321238 decodes to week 33 of 1994. Subtract the decoded year from the current year for the age.
Which brands share the KeepRite serial number format?
KeepRite is part of the ICP family, alongside Airquest, Arcoaire, Comfortmaker, Day & Night, Heil, ICP, and Tempstar. These brands come off shared production lines with the same data plates, so this page's serial number formats apply across the family. The refrigerant timeline above is stated for the whole family, not per brand. The warranty section above is this brand's own.
Has the KeepRite serial decode been checked against serials somebody else dated?
ICP letter + year-week (L + YYWW): Read against 21 serials where a public body's own equipment schedule prints a year beside the serial (Salem, New Hampshire; Mobile, Alabama; Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Wayne Township, New Jersey; the year sits under a column headed Year on 15, under a column headed Year Manuf on 4, on a line labelled YEAR on 1, and in a row labelled Year Manufactured on 1, 16 of which the document does not define), 5 name an equipment type, 2 of them condenser, across 4 equipment types: 18 matched the reading shown first, 3 did not match any reading (the published year ran earlier than this tool's reading on all 3).
No serial with a date published outside this tool has produced a reading through the ICP year-week + letter (YYWW + letter) format yet. No document from the company that built the unit is held for it, so the rule rests on the secondary references this tool records.
Across the KeepRite formats on this page, 2 serials with a date published outside this tool produced no reading at all (Myrtle Beach, South Carolina). A serial this tool reads nothing from is neither an agreement nor a disagreement, so it is counted in neither.
Where someone outside this tool wrote down a different year for a unit, that year is shown here rather than dropped. It is that publisher's record for the unit, and a schedule or a listing can carry a replacement, system or lot year rather than the build year. The MFG DATE on the unit's data plate is the build date.
What refrigerant does a KeepRite unit use?
By manufacture year: through 2005: R-22; 2006 to 2009: R-22 or R-410A; 2010 to 2024: R-410A; 2025 and later: R-454B. The refrigerant printed on the nameplate is authoritative; the year-based mapping tells you what is typical for the age, not what is in a specific unit.
How do I look up my KeepRite warranty?
No page of KeepRite's own for looking up a warranty is linked here, and this page does not read any maker's records, so it cannot show whether a unit was registered. What this page works out is the next question. Enter the serial in the lookup on this page and the result works out the parts term the KeepRite warranty certificates held here print for that build date, naming the edition and quoting its clause, or says plainly why it cannot and what would answer it. Is my KeepRite unit still under warranty?
12 ICP air conditioner and heat pump warranty certificate editions covering KeepRite are held here, from 401 06 4300 04 (May 2010) to ACHP-ICP-08WAR (02/26). Why do some KeepRite serial numbers refuse to decode?
A serial beginning with Z matches an older ICP style. ICP's own date code letter, which this tool holds, prints its layouts with other leading characters and none beginning with Z, so this tool reads no date from this style. If the data plate has an MFG DATE field, that is the reliable source.
How old is my KeepRite furnace?
No maker document held here dates KeepRite furnaces, so the tool does not call a date a KeepRite furnace's age; it reads the serial by the same rule it uses for KeepRite's other equipment.
