What is the R-449A pressure and saturation temperature in the mid-range?

On the R-449A PT chart, at 88.3 psig the bubble point is 40.2F and the dew point is 50F, and at 217.3 psig the bubble point is 92.9F and the dew point is 101.4F. R-449A (Chemours Opteon XP40) is a zeotropic R-404A and R-22 replacement for commercial refrigeration, with a 8 to 10F glide.

Why are the R-449A pressures and temperatures not round numbers?

The Chemours Opteon XP40 reference table is keyed on round absolute pressure (psia), so each row lands on a round psia value and the gauge pressure (psia minus about 14.7) and its saturation temperatures come out non-round. The values are exact reference data from NIST REFPROP 9.1, not rounded field estimates.

Do I use bubble or dew point for R-449A superheat and subcooling?

Use the dew point for superheat and the bubble point for subcooling. Superheat is measured on the suction line where the refrigerant is fully vapor, which is the dew side. Subcooling is measured on the liquid line where it is fully liquid, which is the bubble side. Because R-449A glides 8 to 10 degrees F, using the wrong column introduces a large error on a commercial charge.

What is the difference between R-449A and R-448A?

They are close competitors: both are zeotropic HFO blends that replace R-404A and R-22 in commercial refrigeration with similar pressures and glide. R-449A is Chemours Opteon XP40 and R-448A is Honeywell Solstice N40. Their PT curves are nearly the same, but always read the chart for the exact refrigerant charged, since the small differences still matter for accurate superheat and subcooling.
