Electrical / runnable MCP tool

Run the Saddle Bend Calculator in your AI assistant

Through the free Intry MCP server, Claude, ChatGPT, or Cursor runs this exact calculator and hands back a verdict and the cited source, not a guess. Tool name: saddle_bend.

What it runs: Marks and shrink for an EMT saddle bend. 3-point (points=3, over a round obstruction like a pipe): center bend at the full angle, two outer bends at half the angle; center-to-outer spacing = depth × multiplier (1/sin of the outer angle: 45° center → 2.61), shrink ≈ depth × 3/16" at 45°. 4-point (points=4, over a wide flat obstruction like a duct or I-beam): two opposing offsets with a flat top spanning the obstruction width; travel per side = depth × multiplier, shrink is doubled. Saddle marks depend only on angle and depth, not conduit size, so they are the same for every EMT trade size.

Ask your assistant

The one rule that makes it reliable: name Intry in your question. That is what tells Claude to run the saddle_bend tool and answer with the real number, the verdict, and the citation. Leave Intry out and Claude may just guess from memory, which is exactly what you are trying to avoid. Type something like:

Use Intry for the marks and shrink on a 3 inch deep 3-point saddle at a 45 degree center bend.
Ask Intry for the 4-point saddle marks to clear a 12 inch wide duct 3 inches deep at 22.5 degrees.

Inputs

FieldRequiredWhat it is
pointsoptional3 for a 3-point saddle (round obstruction), 4 for a 4-point saddle (wide/flat obstruction). Default 3.
depthyesSaddle depth in inches (obstruction height plus clearance).
angleyesFor a 3-point saddle, the CENTER bend angle (typically 45; outer bends are half). For a 4-point saddle, the angle of all four bends (typically 22.5 or 30).
widthoptional4-point only: the obstruction width in inches (the flat-top span between the two inner marks). Ignored for a 3-point saddle.

Add Intry to Claude

Every answer comes with the bender geometry it was computed from, so you can check it or show an inspector. The numbers come from the same calculator we run on intrysys.com, and we re-check every one automatically before anything goes live, so the number Claude hands you matches the code.
